Welcome to the Students First Mentoring Program Website
Starting school on a new campus can be difficult for anyone, but it can hold unique
challenges for first-generation college students (those whose parents have not graduated from a four-year college). Many freshmen and new
transfers to PSU tell us that they feel anxious, confused, or overwhelmed by all of the new information they have to deal with when starting
school here. Trying to find your way around in a big, complicated university system can be confusing. If you don’t have someone
experienced to help you, your chances for college success may be at risk.
Students First: Making the shift to college life easier
This website is divided into two sections. The front half is general information about who we are and what we have to offer to new, first-gen
students. You will notice that there is a password restricted page in the tabs above. This is where students who are enrolled in our program
actually get most of the resource information that we have. Inside is a clearly marked path to services that students will be able to utilize
during their time here at PSU. The site also contains the student issues videos that we have created to let our students hear directly from
other people just like them about how they faced, and overcame, challenges as they were getting used to being a university student.
Please feel free to browse this site and then contact us for more information or to see if you qualify for participation. If you have any
